The Woman In Revelation 12

The “Woman” in Revelation 12 will be (is being) attacked by the devil.

Does that happen in the past, present or future? The answer was provided for by Paul in Galatians 4. The Woman is spoken of in the Old Testament. Instead of Israel, I give credit to all educated guess by many, it actually is Sarai, the wife of Abraham, as a -type-. Abraham is the father of faith.

11 and he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while uncircumcised, so that he might be the father of all who believe without being circumcised, that righteousness might be credited to them,

Romans 4

The child, Isaac, is a free child. Not only was Issac the son of faith, Paul says in Romans 4 that Abraham is the father of all who believe without being circumcised. This he said toward those Gentiles that he was reaching for the Gospel. By faith alone, the righteousness of God is being credited to the Gentiles who put their trust in Christ.

One in Christ is a slave set free from the bondage of sin and death. As such, the child, Isaac by type, is the child that is being birthed by the New Covenant. Paul, a biological Jew, messianic to Christ, called collectively the former pagans, the Gentile believers in Galatians, by “our” collective. That is one Body out of the New Covenant, from two Houses, Israel and the nations. This “child” is the one that the red dragon will pursue in the end times epic story. And this child covers all messianics and Gentile believers in Christ.

Messianic Teaching On Galatiym 4

26But the Jerusalem above is free, and she is our mother. 27For it is written, (Quoted from 2 Samuel 20| 19)

“Rejoice, O barren one who does not bear; break forth and cry aloud, you who are not in labor! For the children of the desolate one will be more than those of the one who has a husband.” 28Now you, brothers, like Isaac, are children of promise.

This passage is suitable for providing an interpretation for the woman in Revelation 12. The question is – is God foretelling a vision that the devil will pursue the biological Jews or will the devil pursue all true believers of Christ, inclusive of both the messianics and the Christians? Paul called that category “the children of promise” (v. 28), not the children of the law.

Those of you who are Christians can tell if the devil is harassing you. Yes? No?

Interpretation

The woman in the vision in Revelation 12 is indeed the “Jerusalem above”, not the one below here on earth. And actually, the narrative is clear in both places that agree in spirit. In fact, in the vision given John, the woman is “in heaven”, standing on the earth. She was born on the earth. That is the New Covenant Body. But she is raised to heaven as God gives His protection, the picture of the clothing with the sun. The moon is below her feet, which is interpreted to mean her foundation is Israel, the moon symbol, the chosen nation of God for His specific purpose in bringing to mankind the Christ figure.

From the Torah came the fulfillment of the Messiah by the Messiah. His atonement was long prophesied in Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and from Deuteronomy. The woman is indeed as Paul put it, “our” mother to those who are in Christ and as we put our faith in Him. This destroys the replacement theory. The replacement theory puts up a dispensation for a separate time for the Gentiles and it is followed by a time for the Jews to come to salvation. But in reality in the “Fig Tree” generation both Jews and Gentiles are coming to Faith in Christ.

The Woman and the Dragon

1And a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. 2She was pregnant and was crying out in birth pains and the agony of giving birth. 3And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns, and on his heads seven diadems. 4His tail swept down a third of the stars of heaven and cast them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she bore her child he might devour it.[1]

[1] The woman is the Jerusalem above. Her offspring is all who come under the New Covenant for both Jews and Gentiles believers in Y’shua haMoshiach (Jesus Christ). By this interpretation it refutes the theory of the pre-trib rapture which says “Christians” will be “taken” then “leaving the Jews” to suffer in the tribulation” before the antichrist entity. Such a theory would be predicated on the woman interpretation to be Israel the physical nation. The child that is Isaac by type, who is born free from the slavery of sin from the Law, by contrast to the child of strife, Ishmael, who was born of Abraham and Hagar. Without the conviction of the Law, death has lost its sting. Death has no power over the one who is Christ’s own. The devil may attempt to devour the child but he will fail.

Jacob’s dream provides the interpretation of the twelve stars being the 12 tribes of Israel/Jacob. The woman is crowned with a crown of twelve stars. Here the word crown is stefanos, a woven crown made of laurel leaves, which symbolizes honor. In the New Jerusalem, from Revelation 21, there are twelve gates, each with the name of a tribe of Jacob.

12 It ad a great, high wall, with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and on the gates the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel were inscribed; The gates are entry points to the New Jerusalem.

The early disciples before Acts 2 and after Acts 2 were all from the tribes of Israel.

5She gave birth to a male child[2], one who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron, but her child was caught up to God and to his throne, 6and the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, in which she is to be nourished for 1,260 days.[3]

[2] Why is the vision specific to the gender of the child? It is because in the writer’s Hebrew mindset the male child is the heir of the estate.

[3] It is promised that all the messianic believers and Gentile believers that for the first 1,260 days of Daniel’s last “week” (seven years on earth), the faithful of Christ will be shielded by God. Not only that we will be shielded, we are also nourished by the Holy Spirit during these difficult times.

Christ has promised two things, that His disciples will not be left as orphans without a father once He is away; and He will keep us in the hour of tribulation.

Revelation 3 10 Because you have kept my word about patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world, to try those who dwell on the earth. 11 I am coming soon. Hold fast what you have, so that no one may seize your crown.

The “child “ (of promise) will rule the nations as promised by Christ in the millennium as His co-heirs in His kingdom. Here in Revelation 3, Christ gave this promise to those who overcome in His millennium.

26 The one who conquers and who keeps my works until the end, to him I will give authority over the nations, 27 and he will rule[c] them with a rod of iron, as when earthen pots are broken in pieces, even as I myself have received authority from my Father. 28 And I will give him the morning star. 29 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’

And we need to show obedience to the Lord for His words shall never pass away.
