HOW DO WE UNDERSTAND A BIBLE MARK?
In the law of First Mention, we have Cain’s mark. Cain was the firstborn of Eve with Adam. The power of the mark is spiritual and it had authority. The mark of Cain spared him from being struck down (note the promise was specific). From here we learned about the Mark of God and the mark of the beast. If you are marked by God Himself the mark of redemption, you are destined to the end of the redemption process as long as you stay the course, fight the good fight, run the race and complete it and keep the faith. The list is short.
If on the other hand, you are marked by the beast, you belong to the beast and the beast belongs to the devil. It is Game Over. It is because of this divine rule that the devil finds it so enticing and motivational for him to irreversibly increase his gang and company for the final judgment. If he gets someone to take the mark of his son, the beast, then he knows the word of God says that is final. He banks on that command from God. God will not take His word back.
The Law Of First Mention
In Genesis Cain begged God to keep him alive after he committed the first homicide in the human civilization. Even Cain knew it was bad. A man born of a fallen man, his dad, Adam, had conscience.
Genesis 4:15 Then the Lord said to him, “Not so! If anyone kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold.” And the Lord put a mark on Cain, lest any who found him should attack him.
We know then the “mark” came from the hand of God and it is of a spiritual nature. It cannot be “washed out”. It is a spiritual transaction. We shall see later the mark of Christ in its nature as a transaction in the spiritual realm.
No Mark
Cain did not have a mark. We are born as a fallen race also with no mark. We were born like a blank sheet. Babies are innocent for this reason.
The first mention of the word owt H226 took place in Beresheet 4 (Genesis), and it was spoken by God. He placed it on Cain. The meaning of owt is
oth; probably from (in the sense of appearing); a signal (literally or figuratively), as a flag, beacon, monument, omen, prodigy, evidence, etc.
Genesis 4| 15
You were born with no mark. In your life time, you gravitate toward the treasures of your heart toward one or the other before you die.
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. – Matthew 6| 12
You could die a disbeliever and in that case you died with no mark but just the curse of your sinful nature from birth. You have been “your own man” all your life. You had hits and misses. But it was the misses that nailed you. You could have sought redemption from the misses but you did not. So all your hits and misses will be presented at the trial before the great white throne of God Almighty.
And then you attend judgement. There will be a fair trial and even you will agree with the final verdict. You did not have the blood of the Lamb to cover you. Or else, the Judge will only see the blood that is your covering and that blood will save you at the trial. Your misses were all covered by the blood of the Lamb that was slain. My misses were all covered by the blood of the Lamb that was slain because I said to Christ, Lord, I receive You. You are my Savior and Redeemer and you are my Lord.
And if the Father draws you to His Son in your life and you answered “yes, Lord please”, then Father puts His seal of salvation as a mark upon you on your hand and on your eye frontlets.
The mark is not a smudge. It isn’t that mark which you frown at when your kid gets home after coming back from football practice. He got marks on his knees and his elbows. And oh! that one on his face as well. That smudge is cleanable with soap and water and a towel with some elbow grease.
The Mark in The Bible
In Bible speak, the “mark” (owt) means ownership. The mark means you have been taken into ownership. Cain got a mark put on him that says he belonged to God. Let no one strike Cain. But the flood is blind. Cain went in the flood.
Those who have been called by Father to His Son receives by grace the mark of Sonship. (There is nothing that we can “do” to receive the mark of Sonship otherwise.) And for that, the Spirit of adotpion dwells within each of us.
15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” – Romans 8| 15
The name of the Son is Aleph Tav in Hebrew. Tav is the mark of God. It looks like a cross. As messianic people, we incorporate Hebrew language as a lens. With this lens of correction to our vision, we see properly and clearly the teachings of God in the Bible.

That is the eternal name of the Son. It is different from the name “Jesus”. While the Son has no beginning and no end, “Jesus” was a name first brought up by the Angel Gabriel to the husband of Maryam in a vision. On the eighth day at dedication, His foster parents began to call the Son of God by the given name of Yehosha, Yeshua or Jesus.
18Now the birth of Jesus Christe took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothedf to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. 19And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. 20But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” – Matthew 1
Yehosha means YH is salvation.
He is the Covenant. He is also the Broker of the Covenant. If you are entered in covenant with God in this legal transaction, your receipt is the mark of redemption.
Can a person receive the mark of salvation AND the mark of the beast?
No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.” — Luke 16| 13
If a person, whether a believer or a non-believer, really wants the ownership of the beast and on top of that, he does so willingly, without coercing, then he first must forsake and forfeit his Spirit-birthright as a believer, and as a virgin with no mark upon themselves.
In Exodus 13, it was the second time the Almighty YHVH mentioned the word “mark”. It was for salvation.
‘By a strong hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt, from the house of slavery. 15 For when Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let us go, the Lord killed all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man and the firstborn of animals. Therefore I sacrifice to the Lord all the males that first open the womb, but all the firstborn of my sons I redeem.’ 16 It shall be as a mark on your hand or frontlets between your eyes, for by a strong hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt.”
The location of such a mark is as “a mark on your hand or frontlets between your eyes”. The frontlets refer to the decorative band that is tied around the forehead. See the resemblance here now to the mark of the beast? In the Jewish tallet, the frontlets of the garment are the atarah, meaning the crown.

In other words, for you to agree to take the mark of the beast, your head has space for only one crown. If you prefer the crown of the mark, then it is yours.
The meaning of the injunction to the Israelites, with regard to the statues and precepts given them, that they should “bind them for a sign upon their hand, and have them as frontlets between their eyes,” was that they should keep them distinctly in view and carefully attend to them.
It is exactly in those locations that the mark of the beast must go. Once taken, the mark becomes the new objectives for the human taker. You have been crowned by the beast to be a part of his kingdom.
In the original instructions from Shemot 13 /Exodus, the mark on the hand and on the frontlets (another way of saying the forehead, the head is taken to mean the altar and the frontlets are the drapery over the head) are commanded to the covenant party believer/worshiper to view his life and his surroundings through the way of the Almighty.
He shall pursue his life on earth according to the instructions provided to him and to walk in the ways of YHVH. If you believe Jesus is YHVH, the Son of God, then you also shall have been marked with God’s seal by faith on your part, to have a mark on your hand (stands for righteousness) and on your frontlets. They stand for your pursuits and objectives in life – as a believer, to honor God above you in all things.
On the other hand, unfortunately, if you believe somehow that Jesus is your “co-pilot” or an advisor to make your life comfortable or successful, instead of making Him your Lord in life, then just know that you never had this mark of salvation. But keep seeking until you bow to the King.
The worshiper who holds firm to the seal of redemption will make godly pursuits in his life. He will remember that his righteousness (on his hand) to come from Christ on the cross and from His resurrection from the dead. I realize that this is not the way some Christians believe their life is. All they believe that they do is to believe that God loves them, God serves their purposes, God will keep them, God will make “sure” they are OK. That God did not come from the pages between the covers of the Bible. The God in the Bible is sovereign and He is worthy or worship and surrender.
The student of the Bible shall know that once the mark of the beast goes down, there is no coming back. The Hebrew letter “tav” looks like the scroll for no other reason except that by obedience to the written word, the Law, the worshiper will be saved by faith, the faith that the New Covenant defines it to be.
