There is relevance for the end times believers today. Pay attention to verse 13. Those who will not hold onto the faith in Eashoa will fall away in the apostacy.
Pergamos, a replica in Berlin, Germany. It shows not a Church. It is a pagan temple where the Lord accuses the community of tolerating the presence of unclean things in their community.
Revelation 2 The Assembly At Pergamos
Yokhanan bar Zvadyah (John The Revelator) scribed the Scroll of Chatson (Revelation) on Patmos while he was banished by Caesar Domitian. In chapter 2, the Word of YH, Eashoa, our Lord, described that era of the Early Church under state persecution. At the end of the first century, the faith was banned as illegal in the territories under Rome. Rome was where the emperor of the empire wanted to be god. Note, in Roman religion, it is a polytheistic mode. For Domitian to want to be worshiped as a god, he is not replacing God in the real sense. But the last antichrist, the last false christ to come, will proclaim himself in future to be The God. Note the difference.
12 To the angel of Messiah’s community in Pergamum write:
“Thus says the One who has the sharp two-edged sword: [Isaiah 49|2]
13 I know where you live—where satan’s throne is. Yet you continue to hold firm to My name, and you did not deny your faith in Me even in the days of Antipas, My faithful witness, who was killed among you, where satan resides.
14 “But I have a few things against you. You have some there who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who was teaching Balak to put a stumbling block before Bnei-Yisrael, to eat food sacrificed to idols and to commit sexual immorality. [Numbers 31|16] 15 Likewise you also have those who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans. 16 Repent then! If not, I will come to you soon and make war against them with the sword of My mouth.
17 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Ruach is saying to Messiah’s communities. To the one who overcomes I will give some of the hidden manna,[f] and I will give him a white stone—and written on the stone a new name that no one knows except the one who receives it.”

16 Why, they are the ones—because of Balaam’s advice—who caused Bnei-Yisrael to be unfaithful to Adonai in the matter of Peor, so that the plague was on the community of Adonai!
The Self-Deified Emperor
Emperor Domitian had a definite ego problem! In Imperial Rome the senate would deify an emperor upon death (Kreitzer 1990: 210–17). However, like Gaius Caligula, and well attested by ancient writers, Domitian could not wait until death and deified himself.
Hence, the Lord was telling John on Patmos the caesar that banished him is the adversary inside a possessed evil man. John did persevere, he did not die by martyrdom. John complied to verse 13 –
Hold firm to My name, and you did not deny your faith in Me.
The same verse 13 in Revelation 2 shall be a stumbling block in the last days where people of the apostacy will abandon Christ for the Beast. Take heed that you don’t fall away.
5 Don’t you remember that when I was still with you I was telling you these things? 6 And you know what now holds back, for him to be revealed in his own time. 7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already operating; only there is one who holds back just now, until he is taken out of the way. 8 Then the lawless one will be revealed. The Lord Yeshuawill slay him with the breath of His mouth and wipe him out with the appearance of His coming. [d]9 The coming of the lawless one is connected to the activity of satan, with all power and signs and false wonders, 10 and with every kind of wicked deception toward those who are perishing. They perish because they did not accept the love of the truth so as to be saved. 11 For this reason God sends them a delusional force, to lead them to believe what is false, [e]12 so that they may be judged—all those who did not believe the truth but delighted in wickedness.
There is no such thing as OSAS. Only the overcomers may inherit the kingdom. For those who do not hold on firmly to His name, it is interpreted to mean lips service. Those who do follow Christ at the same time as following worldly pursuits, worship of angels, consulting mediums, dappling in the occult, filling their flesh with lust will not inherit the kingdom.
Galatians 5
18 But if you are led by the Ruach, you are not under law. 19 Now the deeds of the flesh are clear: sexual immorality, impurity, indecency, 20 idolatry, witchcraft, hostility, strife, jealousy, rage, selfish ambition, dissension, factions, 21 envy, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these. I am warning you, just as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit God’s kingdom.
